While taking Akkermansia in the acid-resistant capsule format is the best way to ensure it reaches your large intestine, we know this isn’t the best option for everyone. That said, we don’t have definitive data on the efficacy of Pendulum Akkermansia when it isn’t in an acid-resistant capsule.
Based on existing research, it’s likely that some of the Akkermansia bacteria in the powder will survive. That said, the number of active bacteria will likely be lower than it would be with encapsulated Akkermansia powder. This is due to the highly acidic environment within the stomach which acts as a barrier against bacteria. Taking your Akkermansia powder with food can improve the chance that the strain will survive because food helps to reduce the amount of acid in your stomach.
We recommend that you sprinkle the Akkermansia powder over a soft food like oatmeal, yogurt, or applesauce and consume it immediately.
